When a Sacred Season Comes to Completion
There is a particular courage required when we stand at an ending. A unique kind of courage that asks us to stay awake as a chapter closes, to feel the shift happening beneath the familiar, to let our hearts acknowledge what has run its natural course. Endings often arrive quietly, yet they carry the power to redirect an entire life.
I find myself standing in such a moment now.
This Sunday will be my final day serving as minister at Unity Spiritual Center in the Rockies. My relationship with this community spans many years of shared discovery, devotion, and real spiritual growth. I served as their full-time minister from the end of 2010 to 2021 and returned again in 2024 to support their transition into new leadership. Twice our paths crossed in meaningful ways. Twice we were changed.
What These Years Actually Held
When I stepped away from full-time ministry in 2021, I imagined I would shift into a gentler pace. Instead, life carried me into a local business that was facing enormous challenges. I stepped into a storm of long hours, constant pressure, and responsibilities that grew heavier by the day. I moved at a breakneck pace and ignored the signals my own spirit was sending. I pushed through stress when I my soul wanted to soften. I held more than was healthy.
Eventually, I found myself closing that business on behalf of the owner. And almost the moment that chapter ended, the opportunity to return to Unity opened before me. I walked through that door still tired, still catching my breath, still learning what boundaries look like in practice.
What I discovered is this: the cost of living without limits is too high. The soul needs spaciousness. The body needs gentleness. The spirit needs room to breathe. These are lessons I am only now truly claiming.
Returning to Unity gave me a place to practice being a different kind of minister. I served with more awareness of my own humanness. I listened to my limits instead of overriding them. I let myself be honest about what I could offer. And, most of the time, the community met me there with grace.
A New Path Emerging
As I approach sixty-five, I’m traveling more. I’m reconnecting with the wild woman in me, the one who thrives in open landscapes and ancient places. I’m expanding my spiritual voice and enjoying the opportunity that stretches beyond the boundaries of any single role. I’m offering more retreats, opening new healing spaces, and working with women in profound transitions like menopause. Through all of this, I’m choosing a pace that is more sustainable and embodied.
Unity helped me see my need for all this more clearly. Their transition illuminated my own. And truly, no one who knows me should be surprised. My life has always evolved in bold, spiraling ways.
Something new is being born in me.
For Anyone Standing at an Ending
If you are at the closing of a chapter, let it be sacred. Let it teach you. Let it reveal where you’ve outgrown your own habits, where you’ve carried too much, where you are ready for a new rhythm. Endings are not punishments. They’re invitations.
This transition is exciting for me and filled with gratitude. Unity Spiritual Center will always be a part of my story. The friendships, the prayers, the humanity we shared, the wisdom we uncovered together. All of it travels with me.
And now I’m stepping into a new beginning, moving toward joy, purpose, spacious days, and work that feels aligned with the woman I am at time in life.
Here’s to endings that bring us home to ourselves.
Here’s to beginnings that rise bright and promising.
Here’s to the courage in each of us to walk toward the life that’s calling.
Here’s to being human.
