Practical Wisdom: Ride the Lion

During my travels, I encountered so many forms of the Divine Feminine. In a world unraveling at the seams, She brings us comfort, hope, and strength.
Not brute strength.
Sacred strength.
The kind of strength that rises from the depths of love, justice, and soul.
Let me introduce you to Durga—the Great Mother of fierce compassion, protector of the sacred, and destroyer of illusion.
She comes to us riding a tiger, not to provoke fear, but to awaken the courage that sleeps within our bones. She doesn’t ask us to be meek. She doesn’t ask us to dim our light to be palatable. She asks us to remember our power—and to use it wisely.
Each month, I’ll be guiding women to integrate the strengths and qualities of different goddesses into their lives and inviting them to listen deeply to what She has to teach us. But since we’re just launching, I thought I’d give my entire readership a taste of what Goddess of the month is all about. This first month... we begin with fire.
We begin with Durga.
Who is Durga?
Durga is one of the most revered goddesses in the Hindu tradition. She is both the gentle mother and the cosmic warrior.
Her story is ancient and powerful:
There once lived a shape-shifting demon named Mahishasura who, after intense spiritual practice, was granted a boon: no man could kill him. Fueled by his newfound invincibility, he ravaged the earth, defeated the gods, and plunged the world into chaos.
Desperate, the gods joined forces—not to fight, but to create. From their collective energy emerged a radiant goddess. Her eyes shone with clarity. Her arms, many and strong, held sacred weapons gifted by each god. She was born not from fear, but from fierce love.
She was Durga.
For nine days and nights, Durga battled Mahishasura in every form he took. At last, she pierced his heart with her trident. The world sighed in relief. Harmony was restored.
Durga didn’t just defeat a demon—she restored the balance of the cosmos.
She reminds us: No matter how dark it gets, light is always more powerful when we stand in it together.
This Month, Ask Yourself:
- What in my life no longer serves the sacred and must be released?
- Where have I been giving my power away—and how can I reclaim it with love?
- How would my life change if I truly trusted my inner strength?
This is not theoretical. Durga is not a faraway goddess. She is in your spine when you speak your truth. She is in your breath when you say no without guilt. She is in your heartbeat when you rise again after being knocked down.
You don’t have to be unshakable. You just have to be willing.
