Practical Wisdom: What’s Right in the World
It’s easy to forget, isn’t it?
The news scrolls by, voices rise, and suddenly it feels as if everything good has fallen silent.
But the truth is quieter and much closer than we think.
What’s right in the world is happening right now.
A child somewhere is laughing so hard they can’t catch their breath.
A stranger is paying for someone’s coffee.
A nurse is sitting at a bedside long after her shift has ended.
The sun still rises without fail, painting the horizon with light that asks nothing in return.
Seeds are resting underground, softening their old forms so something green and new can live.
Artists are still daring to make beauty out of chaos.
Friends are holding each other through the hard nights.
And yes, hearts are mending, slowly… tenderly… bravely.
The world is right in the places we choose love over fear, curiosity over cynicism, care over convenience.
It’s right where compassion outshines exhaustion.
It’s right every time someone stops scrolling long enough to look into another’s eyes.
We can find what’s right by softening our focus, by leaning into what’s still whole.
Because the sacred never disappears. It just waits for us to remember.
So take a breath.
Feel the hum of life around you.
Right now, somewhere, goodness is blooming.
And that means hope is, too.
Journal Prompts: Returning to What’s Right
1. What’s one small thing that’s right in your world today? Something you might have missed if you hadn’t paused to look?
2. Who or what restores your faith in the goodness of life when things feel heavy?
3. How can you bring your attention back to gratitude when your heart starts to contract in worry or fear?
4. If you could whisper one truth about what is right in the world to someone who’s lost hope, what would you say?
5. Where in your body do you feel the presence of peace or rightness right now? Can you breathe into that space and let it grow?
Simple Ceremony: Lighting the Light That’s Right
You’ll need:
A candle or small light source, a piece of paper, and a pen.
To begin:
Find a quiet spot where you won’t be disturbed. Take three deep, unhurried breaths. With each exhale, imagine releasing what’s wrong, what’s heavy, what’s unnecessary to carry right now.
Then:
Light your candle. Let its glow remind you that even the smallest flame holds back the dark.
On your paper, write down three things that are right in the world right now…in your home, in your heart, in humanity. They don’t need to be big. A warm blanket. A good friend. A sunrise.
Read them aloud slowly, letting your voice be an offering of gratitude.
When you’re done, place your hand over your heart and whisper: “I choose to notice what’s right. I am part of what’s right.”
Let the candle burn for a few moments more before gently extinguishing it, trusting that the light continues to live within you.
✨ Share this with someone who needs reminding that goodness is still everywhere.
